How many ways can you say HOT? I can't believe the weather here in Chatsworth. It feels like Arizona or hell, you take your pick. The weather reached 119 degrees F yesterday and is projected to be 116 degrees today. Unbelieveable. You know it must be hotter than hell when the air seems cool at just 104 degrees. This was the view from the front door.
So what does the good knitter do? Yes, she knits with cotton, but she still knits, inside the airconditioned house, kept at 78 degrees. It seems very apropos that the shell I am just finishing up today is aptly titled, "Soleil". It's a great fit on me. I am too hot to pose for the camera, but it fits like a dream. It was my first ever "knit-in-the-round". I loved it, so speedy! Thanks to a great and simple pattern by Alexandra Virgiel in Knitty.com

I bought the yarn at a birthday sale at my lys. This yarn was an ancient yarn that the owner had brought from her own stash to sell. Great yarn, even greater price: $1.50/ball
Cost of Soleil: $7.50 I love DK weight yarn, and I couldn't pass up this deal. I really don't care for acrylic, but the cotton and viscose convinced me. Of course, the price wasn't bad at all :)

Specifications:
Pattern: Soleil by Alexandra Virgiel from Knitty Magazine
Started: July 9, 2006
Finished: July 23, 2006 ( 2 weeks)
Yarn: Lane Borgosesia "Show", made in Italy, by Filatura
20% cotton, 31% viscose 49% acrylic, 143 yards/ball - approxiamtely 5 balls (715 yards)
Needles: Addis circular, US #5, 3.75
Changes: Added row of single crochet around the lace bottom edge to help it lay better.
Comments: I did not cast on with an elastic enough cast on, like the pattern said to do. My fault. A loose cast on and a elastic cast on such as Long Tail Cast On is a pre-requisite for the lace edging. Thank goodness I was able to recover with a row of sc at the hem. Otherwise, it was a dream knit. Definitely recommended.

What's next you ask? A WIP and of course, there is the requisite cotton content. I am knitting with Rowan Yarn Classic RYC Luxury Cotton DK in a soft pink color. Check out CeCe from:

Also, please check out the great yarn that came my way from England. Pretty cool blues, (#4073) beautiful and quite trendy - Fiocco Gedifra from Liberty of London, courtesy of Son#3 and his fiancee. Thank you so much. I can hardly wait to swatch it and see if I can make another Soleil in this larger gauge.
