Apricot Jacket - She's Cooking

Since I last posted, I've been knitting steadily on the Apricot Jacket, and have successfully passed the tricky errors in the pattern. Thanks to all before me who commented on these errors - and saved me alot of anguish. I wanted to show you my progress on the back. I had to do alot of re-calculating once I reached the bind off for the armholes. You see, I had to enlarge the pattern and I was also using a different gauge - the Calmer gauge of 5 stitches and 8 rows to the inch. So far, all appears in sync and the decreasing for the armholes looks good.

A little tip to help eliminate the typical "ladder-like" stair-stepping that you will get when you bind off in successive rows: To get a smooth curve at an armhole or at a collarline, slip the first stitch instead of knitting it, and then proceed with the bind-off.

Take a look at the curve - pretty darn smooth.

Anyway, I have about 5 more inches to go on the back. I plan on making this a Calmer weekend now that I've got the calculations done.

Tomorrow is the big L.A. City Rivalry Game and we all know who is going to win: That's Right!!!!!!

UCLA!!! rah, rah rah, cis-boom-bah!!!

If you haven't guessed, I'm a UCLA grad as is the rest of the family. Around here, USC stands for University of Spoiled Children or University of Second Choice - you pick.

So I will be glued to the tv along with my DH. Hope I can knit without any glitches - it's bound to be an exciting game.

Will post progress on the completed back later.

It looks gorgeous Mom - you really are talented...I know you explained why you call it your apricot jacket even though it's purple, but I still think it's pretty funny...start calling it your purple or lavender jacket...
anyway -- Go Bruins! and happy knitting, as always.

Don't tell your niece Kathleen that UCLA rules over USC! Just kidding, your sister Linda
P.S. Another friend of mine is just learning to knit! I'm passing on the link to your blog to her.

P.P.S. I agree with Tamar, that's pretty funny that your calling a purple jacket Apricot!
