A skirt in the making

I started this skirt in July, and then frogged the first couple of inches way back then, because I wasn 't getting a tight enough gauge on my circulars. Of course I did something a good knitter is not supposed to do - I had swatched and got gauge with straight needles, even though I was going to be knitting in the round. No, no. This just won't work, and I didn't get the tight gauge that I wanted for this skirt fabric.
So I finally re-started the skirt in September and jumped right in with an Addi US#3 circular. My gauge is what I wanted: 5.5 stitches to1". Perfect on a US#3.

I'm using the Rowan dark blue color called Nashville - dark blue just like new denim jeans. The excess dye comes off all over my hands - just like everyone says. I am definitely looking forward to finishing the skirt and throwing it into the washer and pulling out a beautifully worn-looking and a less-dyed product. I am just going to go with this thought, because those that have gone before me, say it is so. Who am I to say no?

Right now I have finished all my increases and find myself in Skirt Island, going around and around and around. Mindless knitting that is great for tv or lunches at work. I am getting bored and can hardly wait for the lacey bits. That will be just what the doctor ordered.

By the way, I am not going to be starting the lace as early as the picture suggests - modesty will prevail. I will probably knit until about 15 inches of stockinette before starting the lace.

So you can see that I am now at 11 inches and will get down to serious and mindless knitting. Hope to show progress by next post.
